Magarief told reporters that gunmen attacked the hotel he was residing at by heavy gun-fire. An ongoing battle between Magarief’s personal bodyguards and the gunmen lasted for three hours and left three of his guards wounded.
He was visiting the area to “to get a clear, accurate vision of the circumstances that our brothers in the south are living with”, he told LANA a few days ago.
The south of Libya has a temporary closure of southern borders with Chad, Niger, Sudan and Algeria to help banish smuggling and illegal border crossings. Magarief’s visit intended to see the problems first hand.
